Prairie Breeze Pony Club Center

Pony Club is national organization with a long and rich history and ties to an international body of equestrians and equine lovers, known around the world for its dedication to safety, knowledge and sportsmanship.

What is Pony club?

Canadian Pony Club is a member-based association, managed by volunteers, mandated to serve the needs of Canadian youth, ages 6 to 25 years of age and adults (21 and up), who are interested in riding, learning about and/or caring for horses or ponies. Canadian Pony Club is incorporated as a national not-for-profit organization, and carries Canadian registered charity status. Our motto is Loyalty, Character, Sportsmanship and as an organization, we seek to not only develop strong riders but also upstanding citizens.

Canadian Pony Club is committed to the vision:

To provide the opportunity for every person in Canada to have a positive experience with horses through providing opportunities:

  • For education

  • To learn responsibility, sportsmanship and good citizenship

  • For enjoyment and/or competitive success with horses

ok.. Im interested. Tell me more!

Pony Club takes a broad based approach to introducing our members to the opportunities available in horsemanship.

Recognizing that each members interests and talents lie in different areas, we make every effort to expose them to all facets of equestrian sport so that they might find the one that optimizes their enjoyment of the sport while learning some elements of all. Whether it be Dressage (highlighting harmony of communication between horse and rider), Show Jumping (navigate their mounts over a course of obstacles in the show ring), Mounted Games (using their growing skills in fun ways),  or the challenge of Quiz (a non mounted, knowledge based competition) there are many opportunities for our members to discover their passion. In each of these, members can choose whether to participate simply for the enjoyment of it or take that next step into the challenge of competition. Each member is encouraged to progress at their own speed and to this end, periodic testing opportunities are offered by the local clubs. Testing IS NOT mandatory. It is offered for those who wish to take advantage of a National standard against which to measure their progress. Each child is different and will succeed at their own rate. Our testing standards are recognized worldwide and are the foundation upon which the Rider Levels put forth by Equine Canada are designed. Pony Club Members are known to be knowledgeable and competent equestrians and are in demand as workers and participants in the equine industry.

Commitment requirements

In today's busy society, people generally want to know what is required of them time wise for their children's activities. Again, each branch is unique but in general, you may expect to see your child ride at least once a week (not included in the pony club registration fees), and have seasonal stable management lessons every week or couple of weeks.

As well, there is the necessary fundraising which may require a few hours of your time periodically. We encourage you to become involved in your child's equestrian life and share in the fun and learning they will experience.

Branches will hold periodic meetings where you can attend and hear what is happening in general, discover opportunities for participation and voice your ideas and concerns. Here is where you become an advocate for your child and help shape the activities of the Branch you have joined.

Parents are strongly encouraged to attend all Pony Club activities involving your child, including stable management and riding lessons.

how do i join?

Pony Club, through its partnering with local barns and stables, makes horsemanship accessible. Whether you are already a horse owner seeking to improve your skills and knowledge, a horse-crazy youth or a parent looking for opportunities for your horse-crazy child to interact with horses, Pony Club is for you.

Each Branch has its own name and colours, runs its own education and instruction program, and frequently puts on competitions and events. Events such as fun days and camps assist the local branches in meeting both individual member's needs and Pony Club's overall aims and objectives.
